Dates for your Diary

All indoor meetings are held on the second Wednesday in the month at 7.30pm.

At the Church Hall in Vicarage Road, Amblecote, Stourbridge.

Unless otherwise stated for outdoor meetings.

Non members are always welcome - £2.00 Admission.

JANUARY 11th   A.G. M.  &  OPEN MEETING

      An opportunity for members to raise any issues or put ideas to the committee for future projects and meetings.

FEBRUARY 8th   Don Cochrane - Black Country Murders and Retribution

     Following the publication of Don's book on the subject, tonight he is presenting an illustrated talk about some of the macabre side of our local history.

MARCH 14th   Graham Fisher MBE - Jewels on the Cut

     Graham is a wonderful ambassador for our Glass Industry and Waterways. His presentation includes stories and historical pictures of the Stourbridge Arm of the Canal and the glasshouses that were located along it's lengh on the journey to Wordsley.

APRIL 11th    Roy Peacock - The 17th Century Foleys

     We welcome Roy back to talk to us about this very well known local family whose fortunes were made in the iron industry, and they were engaged in much local philanthropy. They eventually became landed gentry and part of the aristocracy living at Witley Court.

MAY 9th   Kevin Goodman  - The Medieval Bowman

     Kevin has previously been to the Society, when he gave a fascinating and entertaining talk together with props as a Medieval  Herbalist. This time, he promises the same when  he returns as a Medieval Bowman armed with bows and several arrows on display.

SATURDAY  JUNE 9th    THE NATIONAL ARBORETUM AT ALREWAS & LICHFIELD.

     A day out at the Arboretum, with an hour or so in Lichfield on the way back. Seats are first come first served, so book early. Ring Helen (01384 395034) for details.

MONDAY JULY 16 th    AN EVENING  AT WORCESTER CATHEDRAL WITH CANON PAUL TONGUE AND BELL MASTER MARK REGAN

     The evening includes viewing the medieval manuscripts in the Cathedral library and Cathedral tour. Access to the tower and bells and a chance to see Bell ringers at practice . Meet at the Cathedral main entrance 5.00pm. Nearest Car parking to the Cathedral is Copenhagen Street Car Park  off Deansway post code WR1 2HB. For more details contact Helen.

AUGUST 8th    AN AFTERNOON AT BROADFIELD HOUSE

     Come and see the Amblecote UDC chain on display.

     Meet at Broadfield House at 2.00pm . We need to know numbers so please contact Helen 01384 395034

SEPTEMBER 12th    Brian Draper MBE - River Severn Part 1

     Brian will take us on an illustrated journey of the River Severn from its source on Plynlimmon to Bridgnorth. Informative and very entertaining.

OCTOBER  10th     Jean Weston - Wollescote Hall

     Jean gave us a fabulous talk last year on the Last Countess of Enville. We look forward to another local topic, this time the History of Wollescote Hall.

NOVEMBER  14th    Andrew Lound - “When the Lights Went Out”

     Birmingham & the Midlands GO TO WAR !  ARP Costume and numerous wartime props & memorabilia.

     Stunningly illustrated with many images, sound effects, music and animation this is a presentation that will bring back many wartime memories.

DECEMBER 12th     Christmas Social - Dave Berry - ‘Humour in Retirement’

     We do not know what to expect from this humorous evening, but if you are not retired you will probably learn what to expect.  If you are retired you will probably know it all already. Visitors welcome - £3 cover charge.
