Corbett Hospital
Hill House was in existance in the early 1700's, but fell into disrepair in the 1880's, and the contents were auctioned on 8th March 1886. The house was purchased by John Corbett in December 1891, and he renovated the house as a hospital. This was donated to the people of the surrounding area, and opened on 31st July 1893.

The Corbett Hospital report for the year ending 30th June 1902 makes interesting reading. No National Health Service in 1902 !!!

A 1903 postcard.

This 1903 map of the hospital shows the additions that have been made to the building since it was The Hill in the early 1880's. The original house is shewn in red.
The house sale in December 1891 refers to an avenue of sycamore trees lining the drive up to the house. A large tree can be seen on the right of the above postcard., but seems to be missing on the 1920 photograph below. There appear to be small trees lining the drive on the right, these are probable Limes, one or two which still remain today.
A number of aditions to the hospital were made in the ensuing years.

Work was underway to overhaul the Corbett Hospital in Amblecote as part of a £120 million private finance initiative project which also saw Russells Hall Hospital and the Guest Hospital in Dudley redeveloped. This aerial view shows work at the new Corbett Hospital site off Vicarage Road, 18 months into a 42 month building programme. The new horseshoe-shaped centre includes an outpatients department, ante-natal clinic, radiology department, day surgery, an elderly day hospital rehabilitaion, therapy unit and pharmacy.
